Cambridge Soundworks does it again!Jul 02, 2010
20 years ago i purchased the first satellite 'home theater system, 'Ensemble'. Loved its early inventiveness with the 2 satellites, center speaker and 2 'passive' unpowered subs. It was great for its day and gave many years of service. I decided to upgrade finally and shopped around at different audio stores around town and even tried some to demo and was not satisfied. I had heard CS had sold to another company and did not give them much thought till i searched them on the internet and checked out their website. The pricing seemed pretty good for size of speakers and speced performance. plus the fact you could try them out for 30 days and send back if unsatisfied. Plus the discounts on the purchase at this time were excellent. So decided to buy the Newton Series MC630NHD 5.1 with 5 speakers and (large) sub. I got them within a few days and wow was i pleasantly surprised.
The packaging was excellent and protected each piece beautifully. The quality of the finishes are amazing, and each speaker are very solid 15 lbs each! Great brackets for mounting for each. Also comes with a 50' coil of 12ga. monster speaker wire. The subwoofer is a very serious piece of equipment weighing in at about 70 lbs. Very adjustable to room size and depth of rumble.
Once i got it set up and balanced to my receiver, WOW, they really put out clean clear sound like no comparison to what i've had. Also they sound better then many of the much more expensive speaker systems i looked at out. Was actually pretty blown away at what i got for the money. Trust me you cant go wrong with the free trial to see how they sound in your house, they rock for what every you pump through them:DVD's, music or DVD concerts.

First off, I have to say, it's hard to describe how beautiful and solidly constructed these speakers are. They have a very heavy metal casing with a deep rich black finish that is similar to the automotive paint on a nice sports car (although they are more satin / matte and less glossy). The shipping is very well packaged -- each satellite is double boxed with styrofoam separating bridges in the interior box. The speaker itself is encased in a nice cloth bag. You will want to keep this bag for later as it makes for a nice cloth to remove finger prints from the speakers (They do pick up finger prints easily but a touch of windex and a wipe of the soft cloth bag and they are shiny and new again). The speakers include mounting hardware for placing directly on the walls or standing up horizontally as a center channel.
There is a heft and weight to these speakers that defies your initial observations. After years of seeing plastic and cheaply housed speakers with tiny magnets, your first thought when picking up one of these will be OMG it is heavy. The Subwoofer looks like a high end computer tower and the shipping weight for it is nearly 100lbs.
As far as the sound quality, it is very "flat" and neutral. This is actually a good thing because it's presenting the sound the way it's supposed to without adding a lot of flavor to it. Good high and mid end response from the satellites. You will need a powerful amp to drive these. My older amp can be turned up all the way and these speakers show no sign of working hard at all -- absolutely no distortion or vibrating noise from the speakers at all. Makes me want to get a more powerful amp because my current amp doesn't begin to push these things when it's maxed out.
The subwoofer is truly amazing however. Turn it on and deep bass seems to come out of nowhere -- and I literally mean that. It's actually hard to locate the sub. Many subs seem to rattle themselves and cause the floors and walls to shake. This one makes bass you can feel but it doesn't seem to rattle at all. It is so rigid that you can actually touch the metal reinforced sides while it's running and you won't even feel it vibrate.
