5Great RadioSep 05, 2010
Great Radio, works great with my Ipod touch although the dock connectors are not needed. the sound is great and the reception of FM stations is good to very good for my area. AM reception isn't so good but that is not the radio's fault. It works well with my Ipod touch and I can control most of the functions. The lock mechanism on the Ipod Touch causes you to have to go to the Ipod to unlock it to see the screen to change playlist and other things. My only problem with the unit is the Battery backup feature only protects the time setting for ten minutes, all the other settings are lost. Even unplugging and replugging the plug for a few seconds causes this lost. It would be better if it could keep all the settings aleast for few hours in case of a power failure. But I would recommend this unit for anyone looking for Ipod clock alarm radio. Also the sound is great for a small system the X-fi crystallizer definitely improves the sound.

5Price consideredAug 28, 2010
To understand my standards, I won't listen to music at radio quality sound it has to be exceptional to hold my interest.
I'm a young at heart 52 yr old so my hearing is not as acute as it once was therefore the music player must strongly produce all of the highs and lows for me to appreciate it.
The i525 satisfies me.

I had researched and shopped for months before this purchase. You See, my brother has the Bose with cd player and spent $499.
I know I'm the better shopper in the family !

Taking into consideration the reg $149 now $99 shipped price I don't think you could possibly do better than this. I would have been just as happy if I spent the original $149.

Any time I can get near Bose sound wave quality at RCA or Philips prices I'm happy.
Of course at higher levels the richness of the CSW's i525 base is not quite as good as Bose but the crispness and development of highs and lows including everything in between at sound levels normal to slightly above is exceptional in X-Fi Crystalize mode. You'll never listen to anything without being in this mode.

The remote control is phenomenal controlling all that you could expect and more. No need to aim directly at it either its general direction is however necessary.
The 8 presets are not really needed since the digital processor in this receiver is so fast that searching is instantaneous. By the time you press the search button you're at the next channel. Although, It is nice to save a new station when discovered I've yet to find 8 I like.

I took a chance because CSW products are hit or miss but more often than not a hit if you spend the money. Well I didn't spend much money and feel it certainly was a hit.

I've nothing to nit pick since I didn't buy it as a clock radio or an alarm clock.
I wanted a small room stereo that would play my I-Pod touch and hook up to my Blue-ray DVD player in my living room. It serves this purpose better than I could have hoped for.

5Unbeatable at $99!Aug 14, 2010
I understand this radio sold for as high as $200 and at that price, one might be disappointed. Not because the sound isn't phenomenal for it's size, but because most $200 table top radios will have a sub-woofer, which the i525 does not.
But for $99, this radio exceeded my expectations. (and frankly, as a bedside music system, I'm not looking for a high volume performer. Don't get me wrong, the sound quality on this radio is very full. I'm never thinking, "wish it had a sub-woofer")

Three things set this radio apart: 1.) ipod interface is great. (my iPod is 32 GB 3rd gen touch) The i525 produces the kind of impressively rich, clean audio from an iPod one typically expects from much more expensive audio systems w/o frills! CSW attributes this superior iPod sound reproduction to something they call X-Fi Crystalizer technology, "restoring the crisp treble and bass punch erased by audio compressor processing employed to create MP3..." . All I know is "Marky likes it, and it enhances FM too".
2.) CSW has developed a reputation for audio systems with impossibly good sound given their small footprints, and i525 is no exception. Certainly, audio preference has a subjective element, yet no one should be able to quibble with tonal clarity through out the range. One is startled by the lack of any mushiness, and taut bass reproduction. As a bedside music system, it produces clear bass, mid-range and treble far beyond most clock radios. 3.) FM reception is the best I've experienced! FM reception is clean, clear and distortion free. I recently returned the AR Art1, possessing a much larger external antenna, however the reception fidelity was no where near the i525.

What about the alarm clock function? Well, to be honest, I've not set the alarm. However, even if the alarm function is "behind the curve" as some professional and reviews on this site have said, my demands are not great in this area. I simply need an alarm to wake me up reliably. HOWEVER, I will complain about no battery back-up. There's an internal power cell storing 10 mins of power, saving settings---well, for 10 mins of power interruption. That's not good enough. Battery backup should be " de rigueur" for clock radios.

5good rockin at great priceAug 12, 2010
I love this little radio. The sound is way bigger than you would expect based on its tiny footprint. The remote is an excellent perk for a clock radio.
