Cambridge Sound Works i765 DVD/iPod Entertainment SystemAug 30, 2010 Instructions are not complete or clear on how to set up radio station pre-sets. The buttons for locking inthe radio station pre-sets do not function correctly
and do not retain the setting. On FM2 after entering and saving 8 pre-sets, 7 of the 8 were the same as the first selection even though I changed stations for
each of the 7. This unit was refurbished and not new so lesson learned only buy brand new. This is my first disappointment with Cambridge Soundworks products.
Better than Bose's sounddock & wave systems period!Aug 27, 2010 I'm not a Bose hater; in fact I have several other products from Bose to include 2 sets of noise cancelation headphones, life style music system, and some computer speakers. However, as I started looking for a good table top radio it was hard to justify Bose's price compared to Cambridge Soundworks i765. The i765 DVD/CD/IPOD/Radio is incredible. A side note, I was able to catch one of Cambridge's open box sales and I picked this system up with additional discounts for $150. This system is usually compared to Bose Sound Wave but, it should also be compared to the Bose SoundDock systems too. Here is why, the i765 basically combines the two Bose's systems in to one. Let's compare:
Cambridge Soundworks Radio I765
Cost: $299 (However, Cambridge SoundWorks has open box systems for $199 when available)
Features:
+ Integrated iPod dock
+ Plays video from iPod and DVDs for full audio/video entertainment
+ Supports CDs, MP3/WMA on writable CDs
+ AM/FM radio entertainment with 16 FM/8AM presets (If you listen to the radio)
+ Radio Data Service (RDS) text displays station information - song titles, artist names
+ Dual alarms with wake from iPod
+ Intuitive menu adjusts Bass, Treble, Stereo/Wide/Mono, Loudness
+ Can operate all functions of your Ipod from the remote (convenient only if you can see the screen to navigate through albums, genres, etc, but very usually when navigating through album tracks from across the room)
+ Comes standard with a dual voltage power plug, very important if you travel outside of the US.
Lacks:
- HD Radio
- Not as visually appealing as the Bose Wave
- Front panel buttons are impossible to operate in the dark.
- Remote control is also impossible to operate in the dark
- Not officially certified compatible with the iPhone
Bose Wave® music system:
Cost:
Wave CD - $499
Wave Premium Bundle for Ipod - Reg. 639.98 now on sale until 9/30/10 for 579.95. Comes with a better remote.
Wave Ipod Connect Kit- 599.90
Features:
+ Supports MP3/WMA on writable CDs.
+ AM/FM radio (If you listen to the radio)
+ Alarm wake up
+ Can operate all entertainment functions without remote
Lacks:
- HD Radio

- No integrated iPod dock. This has to be purchased separately, thus the various prices listed above.
- Cannot operate all functions of your IPod from the remote (unless you purchase the premium upgrade)
- Cannot operate all entertainment functions without remote
- AM/FM radio entertainment only stores 6 FM/6AM presets vs. 16 FM/8 AM of the i765 (If you listen to the radio)

- Does not allow for dual alarms with wake from iPod, unless you purchased the Ipod Kit.
- Doesn't come with a dual voltage charger standard.
- Cannot adjust Bass or Treble.
- Does not have Stereo/Wide/Mono, Loudness
Bose SoundDock® music system
Cost:
SoundDock II - $299.95
SoundDock 10- $599.95

Since I will eventually make this system wireless with an Apple AirPort express base station, additional comparisons are as follows:
Cambridge Soundworks Radio i765 + AirPort express:
Cost: $299 + $99= $400
Features:
+ Can operate the i765 from your iPhone or iPod. This allows you see the albums or radio station you are selecting.
+ Can control the i765 music selection from your computer.
Disadvantage:
- Additional cost for the AirPort express
- Music controls are limited by the distance from the player.
Bose Systems:
SoundDock® wireless music system
Cost: $549.95
Wave® music system- Soundlink
Cost: $549.95
Features:
+ Can control the SoundDock music selection from your computer.
+ Very simple setup.
Disadvantage:
- Cannot visually select an album or radio station without going to your computer.
- Music controls are limited by the distance from the player.
To be honest Cambridge Soundworks offers a wireless iTune system for $149, which is very similar to the Soundlink from Bose. If I purchased that system my features and disadvantages would be the same.
Summary, when you compare sound quality I can't see Bose's Wave, SoundDock II or the Soundlink wireless system beating it by much if at all. I'm sure there would be some sound quality differences between the SoundDock 10 and the i765, how much I do not know. The sound of the i765 is absolutely unbelievable. If you don't care about the CD/DVD features then the i755 is $50 cheaper. This is a no brainer if you are looking for a great Table Top radio that can double has a great home entertainment system. I hope his helped.
Excellent ValueAug 15, 2010 I use this system to play ,music from my Ipod and dvd's great sound. The price was right and it provides excellent sound quality.
Multifunctional SystemAug 15, 2010 Reception on AM is very spotty. Otherwise the sound is good and the alarms work well. Display could be a bit larger.
Cambridge never disappointsAug 14, 2010 This is the third Cambridge product I have ordered. It's the first that was "refurbished", but it looks and acts like new, and saves some money to boot.
This is the second Cambridge compact sound system I purchased. I lost my first to my wife, who took it to the office. It still works great after about a dozen years.
The new model is more compact and adds an iPod docking station.
Both units have exceptional sound that comes amazingly close to my high-end component system in the living room.
I highly recommend this unit. It sounds at least as good as a similar product from Bose, but for far less.
